I’ve still got this old Hermes 3000 portable typewriter, although I’ve not used it for years. It’s a lovely machine – the best typewriter ever. It uses carbon ribbons because it’s got a shaded typeface – with wide and narrow strokes, rather than the uniformly sharp strokes of a typical typewriter. This was common on electric typewriters, but relatively rare on manual ones, rarer still on portables.
I got this one secondhand in the early 1970s.
