The fronts of the houses open straight onto the street or the village square; the backs are built straight onto the top of a cliff. A 500' (150m) drop to the beach...just imagine the building of them, without even the benefit of modern equipment. Imagine the maintenance of them even today.

The beach is badly contaminated with asbestos from a now-defunct factory a couple of miles further up the coast.
