The mist is essential to the perception of most trolls. These fellows disappear if the mist comes in front of them, of course – but they also disappear if there isn’t any mist behind them – they’re completely camouflaged against the more distant rocks.
So as the mist drifts about, so the trolls appear and disappear, or even appear to move.
Actually, the trolls can be quite scary. They throw rocks at you – especially when they get frisky in the Spring (when the ice that’s pushed some crack wider starts to melt).
