Valle Gran Rey

Do zoom in again and scroll around! You’ll have to scroll vertically as well as horizontally...

See how the road winds back and forth through Valle Gran Rey, to gain height, and how it’s built on a wall up from the hillside below on one side, and cut into the hillside above on the other – especially on the bends, of which there are many. See (top right when zoomed in) where the road goes through a tunnel through a spur of the mountain, and where the older, narrower road used to go before the tunnel was cut.

In the foreground, that extraordinary spike of vegetation is the flower of Aloe Vera – that huge spike shoots out of the humdrum looking bunch of succulent leaves in a matter of days.

How wild the foreground looks – right up in the mountains overlooking this deep valley; and yet I’m just between two villages up here on the tops, with fertile (albeit terraced) fields.
