Rhondda Valleys, South Wales

Seen from the top of a landscaped tip (spoil heap, the waste material from a coal mine – not to be confused with a slag heap, which is waste from a blast furnace) overlooking Tylorstown. The closer valley is Rhondda Fach (Little Rhondda), the further one is Rhondda Fawr (Big Rhondda).

Pennrhys estate is on the top of the hill at far right; Tonypandy in the distance, left of centre; Pontygwaith at middle left; Stanleytown a little closer; Tylorstown just peeking round the tip. I was living in Tylorstown at the time.
