He repairs shoes and sandals – and handbags, and even the zip in your trousers. He's a real expert. He doesn't ask any more from foreign tourists than he does from locals, but he's very grateful if you give him too much and tell him to keep the change.
He was still plying his trade in the same spot, within a few yards, in 2005, but I've not visited the spot since then.
