There are two main ways of making tiles in Indian villages. The professionals do it this way, with a wheel. He’ll let these dry in the sun for a while, then cut them in half with a wire stretched across a simple wooden frame before stacking them up and firing them with a wood fire.
Other villagers, if they can’t afford his services, mould the tiles on wooden formers rather than using a wheel. This is okay for a small number of tiles for a repair, but isn’t practical for a whole roof!
